I brought them a used block with about 20k miles and box full of brand new parts. I brought them all brand new internals except for cam and crank, brand new heads, brand new everything. They said it would be 2-3 weeks and ended up not getting the motor back for 3.5 months. That motor got 800 miles before the head gasket blew and everything was professionally installed and broken in. I replaced the head gasket myself and 2 days later the water pump started spraying coolant. I decided to go ahead and replace the water pump myself. Within a week of replacing it my truck overheated. I found coolant spraying out of the side of the motor between the head and the block. I understand they didn't supply the parts, but paying $2500 for a motor to not run right at all and cost me hundreds of dollars afterwards and days of labor just isn't fair to me. I would not recommend anyone come to this shop if you want quality work done in a decent amount of time.

This is what they did to a friends engine. Friend brought engine in and told them it had a bad cylinder. Calvert said they didn’t find a bad cylinder. Friend took the engine back in after it kept filling the oil catch can. Calvert said “we didn’t see any damage but we will sleeve the cylinder and not charge you labor. Friend waits 3 months and gets engine. Runs the engine 30 minutes, fills oil catch can. Pulls plugs and cylinder 6 has coolant and cylinder 8 has low compression. This place used to be reliable, since the kid took over I wouldn’t take anything there. What a shame he’s ruining his dad’s decades long hard work and reputation.

May know what they are doing and I hope they do. I worked with Randy and told him what I wanted and looked to him for a bit of guidance. What I got was no guidance at all. More of listening to my ideas, telling me things would be handled as requested and then none of my input was received, followed, or even discussed with me. I told him carb I wanted and was led to believe the motor would be dynoed with all the parts I wanted/needed. Motor would be picked up, motor ready to put in my vehicle with a carb tuned. I picked the motor up, no carb, no distributor. Dyno numbers I got show an AFR up to 88.7 so who knows if any of the numbers are accurate or are even mine. I asked him for cam specs and had to ask him over and over again to finally get them. Asked him the cam gear material for distributor and he has no idea. Says to try one type and check it in 100 miles to see if it needs to be changed to the other. I imagine they used a cam they had lying around and not a new one specifically for my build. Hope I will never need more motor work but won’t be going back there.

Wayne Calvert precision is a family owned business, that has been where they are for decades. Wayne still runs the show, and his son Randy has been doing it for a long time with him. I live in Fort Worth and initially was going to use a shop closer to me which has a good reputation, however they wouldn't even be able to accept the work to look at for 3 months. So my next call was Wayne Calvert, who last did work on a Mopar 340 for me back in 1996. That engine is still together to this day and he was only a week ar 2 away from taking a look at it. These guys were great for me I knew what I wanted I told them and they delivered. I couldn't have asked for much more from them. They saved a matching number engine for me and would recommend them to anyone.

Took three weeks to get a quote on building a complete motor. On the third week I met a guy I believe to be named Andy that does their head work. Very knowledgeable and gave me all the answers I needed on building the motor. Mr. Calvert seemed like he didn't want to actually take on the job from the beginning and wasn't really wanting to answer any questions. He gave me the quote and once I asked another question not even about the price but about the build he threw his up and backed away. I left and called the next day. He finally said he didn't want to do the job.
